I've had a conversation about it feeling like dcrits were not working quite
right. I had not really paid too much attention, but then got a few instances
it just felt off like this:

You are done with the chant.
You clap your hands together and say 'fah mar nak grttzt' (Lava blast)
You pull out a granite sphere which bursts into a zillion technicolour
sparkles!
You feel in contact with the essence of fire.
You watch with self-pride as your lava blast hits Centaur.
p report Dcrit lvl 3
Your fingertips are surrounded with swirling ENERGY as you cast the spell.
Centaur screams in pain.
Centaur is in bad shape (25%).
| 03:35 2917: a centaur is here, blocking your path.

I realize I'm not the best mage in game by any means, but this is the same mob
that I had killed a few times before where a normal blast killed it (cause
it's tiny). I then ran a very small test (21 casts) with magic missile on
myself cause anything more might be dangerous.

8 shudders with 0 crit 55-92 damage
4 shudders with dcrit 1 80-93 damage
4 screams with dcrit 1 107-136 damage
3 screams with dcrit 2 103-187 damage
1 scream dcrit 3 112 damage
1 dcrit 2 with no analysis 145 damage

I do know that magic missile is very random, but it definitely still shows a
trend that dcrits do not appear working properly anymore. Can someone review
the code and see? I'm more than willing to shoot myself with small stuff some
more while someone watches and/or gather some more data points if needed.

I also might be completely wrong, but would rather put it out there than not.

My understanding is that spells work in this manner-

Normal spell damage roll - 1000 - Saving throw, ex 1/2 for 500
Critical Spell damage on same roll - 1500 - Saving throw, ex 1/2 for 750

I believe the expectation is that crits inflicted against mobs shouldn't be
affected by the same modifiers as regular hits/blasts.
Crits seem like a reward experience, especially if you're using boons to boost
their frequency. Guess the question is does it seem balanced to have them do
less than a regular hit?

I might be more inclined to agree if the numbers posted by Kanis originally
showed any indication of there being something wrong, but as far as I can tell
it all followed "higher dcrit - more damage".

Yeah, the thing is the game doesn't really tell you when a someone rolls a
successful save. We don't have any of this information from his numbers, and if
there are differences between combat mechanics for players/familiars and mobs
then objectively speaking these numbers may not portray the issue in a true
light. Normally, you just notice less damage than usual, which he has. It's
particularly noticeable on mage blasts when you shave something like 10% off a
mob with a crit when subsequent normal blasts take off 20%. Maybe this should
have been done with mage blasts since there would be a better spread, but there
is no reasonable testing outlet for that kind of damage.
